Our Chelbesa coffee comes from the lush highlands of Gedeb in Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia, where smallholder farmers nurture both traditional local coffee plants and prized Ethiopian heirloom varieties. The cherries are handpicked with care, sorted, pulped, and dried on raised beds, with a final hand-sorting step to ensure only the finest beans make it to your cup.
The coffee is brought to life at the Danche washing station, established in 2019 by Nigusse Debela, a respected figure in Ethiopia’s coffee industry. Nigusse oversees five stations in Gedeb, including three in Chelbesa, creating a vital hub where local farmers bring their cherries for processing. With 250 drying beds and 15 containers of washed coffee processed each year, Danche blends scale with meticulous craftsmanship.
Situated in the newly formed South Ethiopia Regional State, Gedeb is part of the Gedeo Zone, celebrated for its rich coffee-growing heritage. Chelbesa reflects the care, tradition, and community spirit of this region, offering a coffee with character, complexity, and exceptional quality.
