Sourced from Izuba, a washing station nestled in the hills of Runinya, Kayanza Province, Burundi, this is a washed Red Bourbon grown at 1500-1700 MASL. Izuba means “sun” in Kirundi - a fitting name for a station that brings clarity and warmth into every cup.
At Izuba, quality begins with careful hand-sorting of fresh cherry, followed by a pre-pulp float to remove underripes. After pulping, the parchment is fermented under water for around 12 hours, agitated several times to ensure even breakdown of mucilage. Post-fermentation, coffee moves through a serpentine grading channel, separating beans by density and cleansing the parchment with flowing water.
After a final post-wash rinse, the parchment is hand-sorted again and dried slowly over 15 to 20 days, turned regularly to ensure even drying. The result? A beautifully clean, vibrant profile - full of citrus brightness, delicate florals, and silky texture.
Izuba isn’t just about exceptional coffee. It’s about people. Over 1,400 producers contribute cherry to the station, and workers are paid 25% more than neighbouring operations, with wages well above the national average. The station champions transparency, traceability, and long-term sustainability - values we believe in deeply.
