COFFEE INFO

COUNTRY: Mexico
REGION: Oaxaca
PRODUCER: Café El Zapoteco
VARIETY: Typica, Mundo Novo, Bourbon
PROCESS: Washed

In a blind cupping this coffee stood out to the entire team as something distinct and
unexpected (and absolutely smashable), we knew it was one we had to offer! Deep, sweet, purple fruit flavours - blackberry, black forest gateau & caramel with a lively pineapple ferment tingle.

It comes to us from the Café El Zapoteco group, made up of around 180 producer families and led by father/son team Romulo & Alejandro Chavez. Based in Santo Domingo Cacalotepec, the valley of the crow, north of Oaxaca City in the Sierra Juarez mountains, these areas are remote, and farm labour is carried out by the families themselves and those in neighbouring communities.

Our importing partner Raw Materials aims to help improve the profitability and viability of coffee production for producers. Knowledge sharing is crucial to this - Alejandro was able to spend time at RM’s community wet mill El Fenix in Colombia in order to expand the group’s ideas around coffee production and bring new ideas back to the local farmers who might never have this opportunity themselves. Roasters also have a key role to play in championing the incredible potential in these growing regions, which is why we’re so proud to share this cup with you!
