Mandarino is a reflection of South Huila's vibrant coffee-growing culture and its unique terroir. This coffee's name is inspired by its soft mandarin-like acidity, a nod to the region’s most common companion crop: mandarins.
About the Coffee:
This blend showcases Castillo, Caturra, and Colombia—three varietals widely cultivated across Colombia. Castillo and Colombia were introduced after the devastating leaf rust crisis of the late 2000s, while remnants of the traditional Caturra varietal contribute additional depth and complexity to the cup profile. The coffee is sourced from 9 producers across 15 lots, carefully selected for their quality and consistency.
Terroir and Sustainability:
Huila, part of the Colombian Massif, is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve renowned for its biodiversity and rich agricultural soils. Coffee grown here benefits from natural shade, created by limited sunlight (about 3.5 hours daily), which encourages slow bean development and complex flavor profiles.
Tasting Notes:
Mandarino delivers a clean, balanced cup with bright mandarin citrus notes, smooth caramel sweetness, and a touch of mild florality. This approachable yet intricate profile makes it a favorite for both filter and espresso brewing.
