About the Coffee:
Gito is a unique offering sourced from Muraho Trading Co.'s washing stations in the Nyamasheke District of Rwanda. The name "Gito," meaning "tiny" in Kinyarwanda, refers to the small screen size (13-14) that is traditionally sold to the commodity market. However, by isolating the cherries and sorting them by density, our importers, Raw Material, have found that this coffee offers exceptional quality, surprising depth, and a vibrant profile. The coffee is carefully processed, hand-sorted, and washed, ensuring a clean and refined cup.
Terroir and Sustainability:
The Gito coffee comes from the Nyamasheke District, located in western Rwanda, at an altitude of 1,600 - 1,650 MASL. This region benefits from rich volcanic soils and a temperate climate, providing optimal growing conditions for high-quality coffee. Rwanda's mountainous terrain and well-defined seasons contribute to slow cherry maturation, which enhances the coffee's depth and complexity.
Raw Material's partnership with Muraho Trading Co. helps support local farmers by improving production methods, increasing the quality of their coffee, and creating more sustainable economic opportunities for the community. Through this collaboration, Raw Material also work to ensure that producers receive better prices and access to specialty markets, which directly supports the development of Rwanda’s coffee sector and local livelihoods.
Tasting Notes:
Expect a cup that opens with notes of Maple Syrup. Expect a caramel sweetness like that from Medjool Dates and bright acidity of Red Apple.
