About the Coffee:
Grown at 1,700 meters in the highlands of San Jose del Alto, this coffee comes from Pedro Garcia Diaz, who cultivates Catuai and Pache varietals on a small, two-hectare farm, producing just 30 exportable bags of coffee a year. Despite living in the city, Pedro returns during harvest to oversee key stages of production—selective picking, 36-hour fermentation, and careful drying on tarpaulin mats. The result is a coffee that’s clean, complex, and brimming with character.
Terroir and Sustainability:
San Jose del Alto is a rugged, remote region in Jaen, Northern Peru—known for its untapped potential and vibrant cup profiles. The isolation of the area has limited investment and access to cooperative support, but also preserved the uniqueness of its coffees. We work directly with unassociated producers like Pedro to improve quality, ensure full traceability, and pay sustainable prices well above market value. This direct trade approach supports long-term relationships and helps producers reinvest in their farms and communities.
Tasting Notes:
A rich and expressive cup. Notes of butterscotch bring a creamy mouth-feel, balanced by the bright, juicy acidity of blood orange and the mellow depth of plum.
