We’re celebrating the women who are the backbone of the coffee industry—producers like Luz Mely Sanchez, whose dedication and expertise bring exceptional coffee to life.
Luz is a member of the Chilcon family, a community of skilled coffee farmers from whom we’ve been proudly sourcing coffee for the past three years. This year, we’re excited to be buying coffee from her own plots of land, which carry her name—a connection that makes this coffee truly special to us at The Milk Shed.
Women make up 70% of the global coffee workforce, yet they earn less than 20% of the industry’s revenue. Despite their vital role in farming, harvesting, and processing, women producers face significant challenges, including lower access to resources, financial support, and training, as well as systemic discrimination. Luz is part of a growing movement of female coffee farmers working to overcome these barriers and create a more equitable industry.
Her meticulous approach to farming results in a beautifully balanced cup with notes of cooked berries, black tea and cacao.
